Putin calls higher investment, business activity political task

MOSCOW, Dec 27 (PRIME) – Higher investments and business activity is not only an economic but a political task as well, President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting on regional policies on Wednesday.

“I will emphasize: higher investment, entrepreneurial activity is undoubtedly an economic task, this is a basis for economic growth and for the tax base revenue of a region but this is also a political task in the full sense of the word because this is precisely what creates real resources, raises resources for healthcare, education, social sphere development and in general fulfillment of programs of improvement of the city environment, fulfillment of environment projects,” Putin said.

He said that businessmen frequently report unlawful practices by the control and law enforcement authorities.

Putin ordered the regional authorities to solve the issues with debt restructuring with private banks faster. Regions participating in loan restructuring programs must not raise their debt anew.

“I am asking you to take this seriously. I want you to pay your attention to the fact that the resources you receive must lead to a financial recovery of regions. You must not take new loans and go again into debt by wasting the resources you receive on what you see as the most practical things,” Putin said.
